This municipality includes the administrative divisions of Nea Figaleia, which is the centre of the municipality, Faskomylia Kryoneri, Perivoli, Petralona, Stomio, Figaleia (Pavlitsa) on a surface of 12,000 acres. Nea Figaleia is built amphitheatrically on hills clad in olive trees and cypresses having a magnificent view towards the Ionian Sea. The St Nicholas Church is a good example of the 19th century church building.
The area was wellknown as Zourtsa undertaking a significant role during the Independence War of 1821. It was mentioned by the Turkish traveler Elviya Tselebi who visited the area between 1668 and 1761. He described it as a famous resort, full of springs, vineyards, gardens and 150 stone-built houses.
Departing from Stomio, you can trek in the Neda's area. Apart from nature, you can admire the beautiful stone houses in Perivolia and Petralona. You can also see the Byzantine Church in Kryoneri, the Strogo mill, the stone bridges in Petralona and, finally, the findings in ancient Krene.
The Figaleia was an ancient Arcadian city which now belongs to the administrative prefecture of Ilia.
It belonged to Parrasia local area, and was built beside the Neda river and close to the cities of Alifeira and Lykosoura. Figaleas a resident of the city was one of the 50 sons of Lykaonas. The Temple of Apollo Epicurius was built between the years 430-410 B.C. by Iktinos, the architect of Parthenon. The temple is situated at a distance of 7 kilometers north of the city of Phigaleia and 14 kilometers from Andritsena in a rocky environment and at a height of 1130 meters at Bassae. The temple was dedicated by the inhabitants of Phigaleia to Apollo for their saving from the vast and the deadly epidemics which cursed the area. The temple, which was built of local limestone, is the best preserved ancient temple second to that of Hephaestus in Theseio.
The temple’s dimensions are 38.24 m. x 14.48 m. and it is surrounded by a peristyle. The Temple’s frieze consists of 32 sculpted in bas-relief marble slates which are now found in the British Museum. The Temple of Apollo Epicurius is considered by UNESCO World Heritage Site and there is in progress a major conservation project by the Greek Government
The ysterobyzantinos temple of Dormition of Virgin Mary is found in the cemetery of village Beyond Figaleia (former Paylitza), the Municipality Figaleias, in the archaeological space of Ancient Figaleias. The temple belongs in category A1 stayrepistegon. The domes have collapsed and the walls are to a great degree anakataskeyasmenoi. It is a traditional settlement where there are several srings of water as a lot of taps and wells. Southernly of the village was placed in the narrowest point of the gorge, according to the legend, the Oil Hill of Figaleia next to the cavern of Godess Dimitra Melaini.
It placed 20km far from the New Figaleia having 62 residents.
It is placed 23,5km south-easternly of the New Figaleia. In 2001 exited 98 residents. According to the legend, Figaleia took its name from the homonym nymph of the forests. In 659 B.C. the Spartians took over the area, while later it was subjugated to the Aitolians and, successively, to the Macedonians.
Figaleia is surrounded by the Kotilion and the Oil mountains. Kotilion is placed forty units of "stadio" (old distance measure unit) from the city, where exists the Vassai place and the Temple of Epikoureio Apollo.
